Two More Heavy Weights Make Their Entry into the Race for ARG

Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai (former Finance Minister) and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah (former Foreign Minister) are the latest candidates making their way into the August 20 Presidential Race for Afghanistan’s Presidential Palace known as Arg.

Afghan constitution requires every presidential candidate to nominate his/her two deputies while seeking nomination for himself. Therefore, the two deputies nominated by Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai are Muhammad Ayub Rafiqi and Dr. Muhammad Ali Nabizada. These faces are completely new to Afghan politics.

Earlier Dr. Abdullah Abdullah while seeking his nomination announced the names of his deputies who are Humayoon Shah Asifi (a political worker) and Chiragh Ali Chiragh (a Kabul University Professor)

While there still is a day to go before the date is closed for nomination of Presidential Hopefuls, these two figures are the toughest challenge for the sitting President who has planned to go for his re-election. However, Ali Ahmad Jalali (former Interior Minister) and Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi (Former Finance Minister), who were highly expected to give Karzai a tough time, have failed to announce their candidature. To Karzai’s favor, earlier the former governor of Nangarhar Province Gul Agha Sherzai had withdrawn his candidature.

I am personally ashamed that Karzai is running for president again. He had every chance to build that country as every political party and tribe trusted him when he came to power. They supported him. He broke everyone's trust and start moving towards his nationalistic ideology. Right now he is not considered as president of Afghanistan. He is known to be a small tribel leader inside the presidential palace or in cabinate meetings.

The need of the hour is a national leader, and Afghanistan unfortunately doesn’t have one.

The two named in my report are also as corrupt as any other candidate except Ramazan Bashardost.

Ashraf Ghani is a Pashtoon nationalist while Abdullah Abdullah a war criminal of Mujahideen era.

How can Afghanistan have a leader as these people don't let anyone else rise in front of them. These are the dictators disguised as leaders in democracy

This part of the world is hit by leadership crisis. Any leader who comes up proves to be the most corrupt identity.

Don’t be in over enthusiasm. These leaders will also serve the American motives in Afghanistan.

In my humble view Pushtoon/Tajik should come to an end in Afghanistan.
Only those should be elected who can bring hope&peace to this war-torn country.
This is a good opportunity for the Afghan people to bring a tangible change.

To bring that change people should have that capability and intelligence. One who do not know how to read and write can't think of bringing any kind of change. What they are worried about is the money to get food for their families.

Reading and Writing skills can’t guarantee a society free of prejudice on racial, lingual, social, religious prejudices. Only good will gestures and good intentions can be the ultimate solution. Sincere leadership to get the society rid of such evils is the need of the hour not only for Afghanistan but for the region as a whole.
