Transportation & Traffic System to Improve in Kabul
The Afghan ministry of transport has started making efforts in improving and standardizing the public transport system in Kabul.

Ministry officials say that they have, for the same purpose, has constituted a commission in collaboration with the department of traffic and Kabul Municipality to identify and organize specific bus stops and find ways to solve all outstanding issues pertaining to the traffic system in over populated Kabul. Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport Hameedullah Farooqi has proposed the participation of private sector in improving the aggravating traffic problems in Kabul. Mr. Farooqi vowed to take the private sector on board in providing services in this area as well.

The Minister added that the number of buses in Kabul is less than what is needed and this affair has caused a big problem in transport in the capital. To solve this problem, Kabul needs about 200 buses while according to Mr. Farooqi currently through out Afghanistan there is only 750 buses that are run by the Ministry of Transport.

Mr. Farooqi talks of such measures in a time when the streets of Kabul are packed with thousands of private cars. These huge number cars have added to a great extent to the suffocating problem of transportation in Kabul. Further, deteriorating the situation is the blockage of certain avenues due to security reasons. In addition, absence of traffic signals worsens the situation. The corruption involved multiplies the irritating situation as officials of the Ministry are deeply involved in granting licenses to drivers who have never turned the steering wheel in return to a hefty sum of money.

Pawarin,
It has now become a trend in Kabul. Young enthusiastic afghans work for NGO’s at good pays and get a car at a very cheap price. They get the liscence by sparing a couple of dollars and that’s it. They aren’t that educated or aware of the environmental issues pertaining to their action.
