Rape Attempt Foiled…But the Victim Has Lost a Limb

A young girl (20) was deprived of her one leg during an operation in Mayo Hospital to save her life after she got brutally wounded while thwarting a rape attempt on Friday.

Fozia, whose parents had died, was living with her brothers and sisters in a house at Mukadas Park Gulshan Ravi. She was alone at home when her cousin Nadeem Abbas along with his three accomplices knocked at her door. When she opened, they stormed into the house and tried to rape her.

The accused tied her legs and hands with her Dupata when the victim raised hue and cry and put strong resistance to foil the rape attempt. The culprits increased the volume of television so that nobody could hear her cries. However, after failing in the attempt to rape her, they made consecutive attacks by sharp weapons on different parts of her body.

They injured her limbs, including legs, hands and shoulders. They made off after committing the heinous crime. Speculation remained circulating in the surroundings of locality that accused Nadeem Abbas wounded and attempted to rape her after she denied to marry him. She was rushed to a hospital in precarious condition. On Sunday, a doctor conducted an operation and had to cut her leg to save her life.

Victim’s elder sister Khalida said that police had registered a case but could not arrest the accused so far. SSP Investigation Shoaib Khurram said that the accused would be busted soon. The chief minister took serious notice of the issue and sought immediate report from the local authorities.

The interesting point in this incident is that as it happened in the heart of the city, police remained or chose to remain silent over the issue until it was taken notice of by the Provincial Chief Minister.

Such heinous acts have become a common phenomenon in traditional families in Pakistan. In such families girls remain to be given into marriage to close extended family members and in the same sense cousins feel a right over each other. It’s also interpreted as family honor in some cases that causes all this mess.

Negating a proposal in more traditional families means challenging the other family and dishonoring them, the revenge of which is felt obligatory on the boy. Such a sense has caused this mess for which Fozia had to lose her leg and three fingers of her hand.

Maniacs are usually the insiders and women are always at the receiving end. I am really proud of Fozia that she fought back really hard.

Her bravery is no doubt appreciable and shame on the guys who treat women as their commodities.

Doesn't people have anything constructive to do in their lives or its just that their motto is to make sex with anyone who comes across them. Shame on such people.
