
The Attorney General of Afghanistan Mohammad Ishaq Aloko reported the completion of investigations on allegations of corruption against Cabinet Ministers.
While talking to a foreign News Channels the Attorney General said that these individuals along with several former ministers and a few high ranking officials are accused of monetary corruption and a special court is going to be set up to try these accused ministers.
The Attorney General explained saying. “Our constitution has restricted us that in case of Ministers and specifically the members of Cabinet special court should be constituted”
According to Mr. Aloko the allegations indulge Ministers of earning “Millions of dollars and millions of Afghanis (currency)” while signing agreements and purchasing wholesale materials on government’s part.
Mr. Aloko abstained from naming these individuals but said if the court recognizes their cases pursuable, their names would be released. He also revealed the introduction of some of the accused ministers to the court.
In addition to these Ministers, according to Mr. Aloko, “Generals, Aides to the Ministers, Governors, Police Chiefs” could also be seen amongst the accused group.
The Attorney General informed the News Channel of his request to the President to constitute a special court with the consultation of the Afghan Supreme Court and the ministers should be tried in it.
The report of completion of investigation alleging Ministers and high ranking officials come in a time when Hamid Karzai is under mounting pressure from the International Community and his backers to come strong on corruption and the corrupt elements inside his government.
